Phillies Prospect Watch: Brady Day Goes Off, Defense Matters in Clearwater
Storms swept the eastern seaboard on Saturday, April 25, with Phillies minor league affiliates only able to play three of their five games scheduled.
High-A Jersey Shore played a 14-inning doubleheader after a postponement the previous day. Second baseman Brady Day, a tenth round pick out of Kansas State in 2024, went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk in the first game, the only hits the BlueClaws managed in a 3-2 loss. They still drew six walks, catching prospect Kodey Shojinaga leading the way with two. University of Pennsylvania alumnus Ryan Dromboski allowed three runs in five innings, striking out five batters but earning the loss after giving up a rally in his last inning of work.
Day continued to excel from the leadoff spot in the nightcap, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Devin Saltiban singled and drew a walk, Phillies 2024 fifth round pick Carter Mathison (Indiana) went 1-for-3 with a double, but Jersey Shore lost 5-2.
Single-A Clearwater scored four runs in the eighth and stormed past Bradenton, winning 6-5. Left fielder Nolan Beltran went 3-for-4 with a double, Juan Villavicencio went 2-for-3 with a walk, a triple and a stolen base. Catcher Alirio Ferrebus had a game to forget behind the plate, committing four errors, while right fielder Manolfi Jimenez managed three outfield assists, including two to home plate… but one still resulted in a run scoring because of a Ferrebus misplay.
Triple-A Lehigh Valley had their game postponed to April 26, while the rainout for Double-A Reading isn’t yet rescheduled.
