Phillies Prospect Watch: Redemption for Ferrebus, Planned Short Day for Wood
Phillies affiliates went 4-1 on Sunday, April 26 with a bounce-back game from Alirio Ferrebus and a planned two-inning start for 2025 first round pick Gage Wood.
Ferrebus went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run as designated hitter after a rough day in the field the previous game, while Wood struck out two batters and allowed a run in his abbreviated start. Tyler Bowen allowed two runs and couldn’t record an out, while Gabe Craig pitched a scoreless ninth.
Triple-A Lehigh Valley played a doubleheader after a rainout the previous day, with left fielder Christian Cairo powering the offense in game one. Cairo hit a three-run home run in the first inning and went 2-for-3 at the plate; third baseman Otto Kemp went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk as the IronPigs won 6-0.
Steward Berroa homered in game two, going 1-for-3 with a walk and the game-winning blast.
Right-hander Jean Cabrera took a step in the right direction after three shaky starts, allowing two runs and fanning four batters in five innings. While he struggled with accuracy, landing 46 of 77 pitches in the zone, Cabrera still managed to put batters away.
Dante Nori, Aroon Escobar and Carson DeMartini all managed a hit and a walk for Double-A Reading; Alex Binelas went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk, his fifth time clearing the fences in the last eight games. Nori added three steals and Alex McFarlane worked a scoreless inning in relief to seal a 6-2 win.
Reese Dutton, who the Phillies signed as an undrafted free agent in 2024, pitched six scoreless innings for High-A Jersey Shore. Shortstop Jose Colmenares went 2-for-4 with a walk and a steal, and center fielder John Spikerman went 1-for-3 with two walks and two steals.
