Villanova Transfer Target Rodney Rice Chooses USC

One of the top transfer targets available not just in the eyes of the Villanova Wildcats, but to the entire NCAA, is now off the table, as former Maryland guard Rodney Rice committed to USC on Tuesday, April 22.
Rice, who retains two seasons of eligibility, posted news of his decision to his Instagram account. The Wildcats appeared to be one of two programs in the running for Rice’s talents in mid-April, when he cancelled his remaining visits after touring Villanova and Tennessee. However, USC — also mentioned among his top six schools in early April — made a late push for his talents. Whatever it was, it was enough to get him on campus for an official visit… and then earn his commitment.
Playing under new Villanova head coach Kevin Willard, Rice averaged 13.8 points per game on 43.4 percent shooting last season for a Terrapins team that made the Sweet Sixteen.
The Wildcats still need to fill at least five spots on their roster ahead of the 2025-26 season, and will return just one player who logged significant minutes during the 2024-25 campaign. Other transfer targets still on the table include Maryland’s Tafara Gapare, as well as class of 2025 recruits Harun Zrno and Acaden Lewis.
