VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova Wildcats poured it on from beyond the arc on Tuesday, Nov. 11, crushing the Sacred Heart Pioneers 94-60 behind 22 three-pointers, setting a program record. The Wildcats took 43 of their 62 shots from beyond the arc, converting 51.2 percent of the time.

Bryce Lindsay set a single game program record with 17:44 to play in the second half when he sank his ninth three-point shot of the game, leading the Wildcats in points (27) for the third time in as many games.

Veteran point guard Devin Askew found his shot after two rusty games to begin the season, tying Lindsay with 27 points after nailing seven of 10 threes off the bench. The Wildcats’ success along the perimeter helped them pick up 28 assists.

Three-Point Onslaught

Villanova set the tone early, attempting threes on five of their first six possessions. After leading 13-9 early, the Wildcats allowed an 8-0 Sacred Heart run, but threes from Askew and Tyler Perkins on consecutive possessions put Villanova back in front for good. They caught fire from there, taking control of the game with a 27-2 run that included seven made threes and a thunderous Duke Brennan dunk.

A 52-26 halftime lead didn’t translate into conservative play from the Wildcats, as they took 20 more three-point shots in the final 20 minutes. Askew broke the program record for team threes with 11:18 to play, nailing a jumper following a shot clock turnover, then Chris Jeffrey, back in the lineup after a one game absence due to injury, added another on the following possession.

Leading by as much as 39, the Wildcats’ shooting got sloppy late as they continued to chuck up heat check threes: they scored just ten points in the final ten minutes but had more than enough cushion to close out the win.

Senior walk-on Wade Chiddick made his college debut with 3:27 to play. After drawing a foul, he made one of two free throws.

Up next, Villanova will host Duquesne at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.
