Villanova Men’s Basketball transfer point guard Devin Askew made it into the Wildcats starting lineup for their season opener against No. 8 BYU. Askew suffered a knee injury during offseason practices that threatened to cost him games, but he managed to expedite his rehab.

Even as a member of the starting lineup, Askew will play on a minutes restriction in an attempt to preserve his health, per a report from Jeff Neiburg of the Philadelphia Inquirer. A super senior who put up 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game at Long Beach State last season, Askew’s experience running an offense will prove critical for this young Villanova team, taking the onus off true freshman point guard Acaden Lewis.

The Wildcats plan to run a fast-paced offense, and head coach Kevin Willard says that that desire hinges on Askew’s availability.
