Villanova freshman combo guard Chris Jeffrey will miss the Wildcats’ home opener against Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday, Nov. 8 after suffering a sprained right ankle in practice the previous day, per a team announcement.

Jeffrey is one of players unavailable for the banged up Wildcats, as Malcolm Flaggs and Zion Stanford continue to rehab Achilles tendon and ankle injuries, respectively. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound true freshman put up 11 points in 16 minutes off the bench in Villanova’s season-opening loss to BYU, making 50 percent of his shots and adding two rebounds and an assist.

Already an excellent defender, the early returns suggest that Jeffrey could turn into a major contributor for the Wildcats this season. Villanova didn’t disclose how much time he’s expected to miss.
