Villanova Men’s Basketball picked up the commitment of former five-star recruit Devin Askew on Friday, April 25, fleshing out their roster ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Joe Tipton of On3 posted the first report of Askew’s commitment.

A member of the 2020 recruiting class, Villanova will be Askew’s fifth school in six years: he also attended Kentucky, Texas, Cal and Long Beach State. Despite his high status as a recruit — earning the No. 26 overall spot in his class per ESPN’s rankings — Askew’s success varied from stop to stop. Early in his collegiate career, Askew struggled to break into the lineup with the Wildcats and Longhorns. While he averaged 15.5 points per game during his first of two seasons with Cal, injuries (leading to an eventual medical redshirt) limited his ability to perform.

A 6-foot-5, 198 pound point guard, Askew finally found consistency with Long Beach State last season, putting up 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Askew made 40.1 percent of shots and 37.6 percent of those from three, taking 181 shots from beyond the arc for an average of 5.66 three-point attempts per game.

If he can stay healthy (and navigate the jump to a major program), Askew will give Villanova an excellent scoring option next season. With his commitment, the Wildcats need to fill at least four remaining spots on their roster: other targets include 2025 recruits Acaden Lewis and Harun Zrno, as well as Maryland transfer Tafara Gapare.
