Villanova Scheduling: Home-and-Home Series With Pitt Panthers
Expect to hear Scottie Reynolds’ name quite a bit during at least one game in the Villanova Wildcats’ 2025-26 season.
Villanova Men’s Basketball added another home-and-home with historic ties to their schedule, setting up a home matchup with the Pittsburgh Panthers this season and a return game in the Steel City during the 2026-27 season. CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein announced the scheduling update.
Per a July 30 announcement from the Wildcats, the 2025 leg of that game will take place at the Finneran Pavilion on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Villanova and Pitt faced off in the old Big East from 1982, when the Panthers joined the conference, to 2013 when the conference dissolved and Pitt left for the ACC.
The all-time series sits tied at 32-32, with the Panthers winning the last five games. Villanova might gain the edge in bragging rights, however, as they ended Pitt’s season in the Elite Eight in 2009. Dubbed the “Scottie Reynolds Game” that matchup saw Reynolds nail a two-point shot with 0.5 seconds remaining to put the Wildcats ahead for good 78-76.
The ties don’t stop there. New Villanova head coach Kevin Willard played at Pitt from 1994 to 1997 under his father, Ralph, compiling a 1-4 record against the Wildcats in that time.
The game against Pitt should round out the Wildcats’ nonconference schedule, although they won’t learn their matchup in the Dec. 6 Big 5 Classic until the conclusion of pod play in the Philadelphia-area rivalry.
