Villanova Football alumnus Isas “Ice” Waxter II has another chance at the NFL. The 6-foot-1, 209 pound defensive back signed with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday, Sept. 30, giving him the ability to practice with the team, earn a paycheck and continue to hone his craft in the hope of picking up a spot on a team’s 53-man roster.

An undrafted free agent this past offseason, Waxter signed with the Seattle Seahawks but didn’t survive their last round of roster cuts heading into the regular season. He has a bigger frame than the average cornerback, his listed position, but is also a step or two slower, running the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds at the Wildcats’ pro day.

As such, a switch to safety could benefit Waxter best.

Waxter, 24, spent six seasons with Villanova football, including a medical redshirt in 2022 after an injury caused him to miss the entire season. He racked up three interceptions — all of them during the 2023 season, his first as an All-American — 75 solo tackles, 19 passes defended, three forced fumbles and seven tackles for loss during 46 games in his Wildcats’ career.
