Villanova alumnus Justin Moore, who played for the Wildcats from 2019 to 2024 before signing with the Milwaukee Bucks as an undrafted free agent, announced his retirement from the game of basketball on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Moore, who tore his Achilles tendon during the Wildcats’ Elite Eight win over Houston in 2022 — an injury that changed the face of an attempted championship run — said in a social media post that he is dealing with blood clots for the second time, a problem that began following his Achilles injury, and is electing to retire because of the condition.

“I have to step away from playing the game that I love,” Moore said in the post. “Ending it like this was never in the plans. It sucks… and sometimes life just doesn’t make sense, but I trust this must be part of the plan, and that God has a different calling for me! One chapter ends, and another begins. I’m excited for what’s next, and I can’t thank y’all enough for the love and support… Special shoutout to Team Takeover, DeMatha and Nova Nation! Love y’all.”

Moore broke into the Wildcats’ starting lineup as a true freshman, going on to start 119 of 134 games played over the course of his college career. He finished with 1,665 points, 522 rebounds and 319 assists, averaging 15.6 points per game and putting up double figures in every season he played. During his lone season with the Bucks’ G-League affiliate, Moore averaged 5.1 points across 20.6 minutes per game.
