Villanova Football Pro Day: Isas Waxter Improves 40 Time

Villanova Football held their pro day on Thursday, March 27, giving graduating athletes a chance to showcase their talents for NFL teams through participation in a handful of drills. Headlining the event is cornerback Isas Waxter II, who took part in the NFL Combine in February, but a total of 12 Wildcats participated, including a host of 2024 graduates yet to catch on with a professional team: quarterback Connor Watkins, linebacker Brendan Bell, defensive backs Tyrell Mims and Ty Trinh, kicker Ethan Gettman, defensive lineman Chuck Smith, receivers Devin Smith and Jaaron Hayek, tight end Justin Marcus, runningback TD Ayo-Durojaiye and punter Nate Fondacaro.
After clocking a 4.56 second 40-yard dash time at the combine, Waxter — who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs around 209 pounds — managed to improve his time to 4.48 seconds. With that said, as pro days serve as a showcase for a program’s top players, pro day times are often prone to slight fudging: it’s not like the combine where test results are independently attested. Villanova Football didn’t announced any NFL teams as sending scouts to their pro day, so teams looking to draft Waxter or sign any other Wildcats’ player as an undrafted free agent might not take the numbers at face value when making their decision.
Had NFL scouts attended, that could’ve given a better glimpse into where Waxter might end up in the draft, taking place in Green Bay, Wis. between April 24 and April 26. Instead, we’re left to rely on his combine performance, which saw him interview with the Bills. Buffalo drafted fellow Villanova defensive back Christian Benford in 2022, and they’ve shown a tendency for targeting players from the same schools in the past, potentially indicating a growing connection with the Wildcats.
