Villanova Bracketology: 3-3 Skid Drops Wildcats’ Standing

Villanova Men’s Basketball dropped to a No. 7 seed in ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi’s latest tournament assessment, their recent 3-3 stretch putting a slight dent in their overall résumé. The Wildcats (15-5, 6-3 Big East) had spent the last four weeks as a projected No. 6 seed.

For a talented yet inexperienced team that has a legitimate Achilles heel — factors like their rebounding and three-point defense could both sink Villanova in a tournament matchup, much as they have in recent Big East games — seeding could prove the difference between getting their foot in the door of the Big Dance and stringing together some wins.

Villanova Women’s Basketball, despite an ugly loss at St. John’s with senior forward Denae Carter absent, moved up one spot to a No. 10 seed. If that projection (courtesy of women’s bracketologist Charlie Creme) holds, the Wildcats (15-5, 8-3 Big East) would avoid a first four matchup, a concern in recent weeks.

They currently hold the No. 38 spot in the NET rankings and have spent time in the top 30 this season. The current No. 2 seed in the Big East, the Wildcats have struggled to earn national respect despite that résumé.
