Villanova Men’s Basketball dropped to a No. 8 seed in ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi’s latest NCAA Tournament assessment, published on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

The Wildcats (16-5, 7-3 Big East) played one game last week, a well-rounded home win over a struggling and banged up Providence team. They’ve struggled in recent weeks, playing to a 4-3 record over their past seven games, and fell from a season high projected No. 6 seed as a result. Lunardi’s current assessment would send them to Greenville, S.C. to take on Utah State in the first round, setting up a potential duel with a No. 1 seed like Duke.

With 6 weeks remaining before the tournament field solidifies, Villanova has plenty of time to improve on that positioning… and although they’ll kick it off with tough matchups against Seton Hall and at Creighton, the next five games present the easiest part of their remaining schedule, giving them a chance to boost their résumé.

Villanova Women’s Basketball, on the other hand, remained as a No. 10 seed in their respective bracket assessment after a 2-0 week. They’re currently the second-best team in the Big East (17-5, 10-3 in conference play) but haven’t received much national recognition. Their current projection would pit them against No. 7 seed Nebraska in the first round, traveling to the Baton Rouge regional with LSU as their host.

With No. 1 overall seed UConn the only other program in the Big East projected to make the Big Dance, the women’s team won’t have many other opportunities to add to their reputation despite a strong performance in out-of-conference play.

Both Villanova Men’s and Women’s Basketball will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4: the men will host Seton Hall, while the women will travel to Butler.
