Phillies Prospect Watch: Reading, Clearwater Pour It On
Phillies affiliates went 3-2 on Thursday, April 30, with Double-A Reading and Single-A Clearwater exploding at the plate. The Fightin Phils won 15-5 with two doubles from Dante Nori and Raylin Heredia; left fielder Dylan Campbell continued to improve, going 3-for-4 with a double and a walk; Aroon Escobar hit a grand slam and Alex Binelas homered and drew a walk.
Gabriel Barbosa keyed the Fightin Phils’ rotation in his first start of the season, striking out six batters and allowing just one run, a solo homer, in four innings of work.
High-A Jersey Shore eked out a 4-3 win despite managing just three hits. They drew six walks as a team, including two apiece from first baseman Luis Caicuto and left fielder Joel Dragoo. That set the table for a double from Raider Tello, who knocked in two runs; John Spikerman had a day on the basepaths, going 1-for-2 with a walk, three steals and a caught stealing.
Saint Joseph’s product Luke Gabrysh had a bounce-back game out of the bullpen, fanning seven batters in four scoreless innings to push the BlueClaws over the finish line.
Single-A Clearwater won 16-1, drawing 17 walks as a team. Phillies 2025 ninth round pick Matt Ferrara went 2-for-6 with a double and a home run, and third baseman Juan Villavicencio went 2-for-3 with a homer and three free passes drawn. Brad Pacheco got the start and struck out five batters in four innings of one-run ball.
Triple-A Lehigh Valley lost both legs of their doubleheader; third baseman Christian Cairo went 1-for-2 with a steal in game one and catcher Caleb Ricketts went 1-for-3 with a double, but the IronPigs lost 7-0. Fringe major leaguers made up most of the rest of the team’s production.
