Phillies Prospect Watch: Mavis Graves’ Pitchers Duel

Phillies affiliates went 3-2 on Friday, May 15, with left-hander Mavis Graves striking out ten batters with High-A Jersey Shore. Graves allowed just two hits and one run, but the BlueClaws lost 3-0 as he dueled Pirates’ 2025 first round pick and pitching phenomenon Seth Hernandez.

The BlueClaws drew four walks against Hernandez… but he didn’t allow a hit over five innings. Catcher Kodey Shojinaga went on to break up the no-no with a sixth inning double.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley lost 3-2, their offense and bullpen squandering six innings of one-run ball from Alan Rangel. The 28-year-old right-hander struck out seven in that span; Christian Cairo, playing left field, led the offense with a single and a walk, also recording a stolen base and a caught stealing.

Double-A Reading claimed both legs of their doubleheader. Designated hitter Austin Murr hit a two-run homer in the first game, Aroon Escobar notched two singles, and Bryan Rincon doubled.

Jean Cabrera, demoted to Double-A after a shaky start to the season with the IronPigs, allowed eight hits but just two runs, striking out four batters on 82 pitches.

Dante Nori doubled in game two, as did Raylin Heredia and Alex Binelas; Nori also drew two free passes on the day.

Luke Russo fanned six batters in 5.2 innings, allowing one earned run (a Heredia error helped another cross) and earned the win.

Third baseman Juan Villavicencio went 3-for-4 with a home run for Single-A Clearwater, powering a 6-2 win. Center fielder Matt Humphreys singled and walked, Griffin Burkholder doubled and Phillies 2025 first round pick Gage Wood fanned six batters in four innings, allowing one run.

Cody Bowker piggybacked off Wood and earned the win, allowing one run and striking out five in four innings.
