Phillies Prospect Watch: Double-A Reading Swings for the Fences

Phillies affiliates went 3-1 on Saturday, May 16 with a hitting performance for the ages up the road in Reading.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley lost 5-0, hitting just four singles. Double-A Reading, on the other hand, hit the cover off the ball in a 20-0 win. First baseman Austin Murr (4-for-6 with a homer) and infielder Bryson Ware (3-for-6 with a homer and a double) both cleared the fences. 

Right fielder Dylan Campbell (2-for-3 with a triple, a steal and three walks), second baseman Aroon Escobar (3-for-6 with a double) and catcher Kehden Hettiger (2-for-6 with a double) also added to the 22-hit onslaught, one that saw eight batters reach at least three times. Bryan Rincon (2-for-3 with two walks) and Alex Binelas (4-for-6) also made modest contributions.

Adam Seminaris fanned seven batters in five innings, sparking the shutout and allowing just three hits. 

High-A Jersey Shore won 8-1 thanks to shortstop Jose Colemenares (1-for-4 with a triple and a walk) and catcher Luis Caicuto (1-for-3 with a double and a walk). Five other BlueClaws reached base at least twice, including catcher/designated hitter Kodey Shojinaga (2-for-5), center fielder John Spikerman (2-for-3 with two sacrifice plays), and third baseman Raider Tello (2-for-4 with a walk).

Single-A Clearwater capped a strong night for the Phillies’ organization with a 4-3 walkoff win in extra innings, singles from Jonathan Hogart and Nathan Humphreys (3-for-5 with a double) plating the tying and winning runs. Catcher William Vierling (1-for-3 with a homer and a walk) and third baseman Robert Phelps (2-for-5 with a homer) both cleared the fences. Ramon Marquez allowed just three hits over five scoreless innings, striking out nine batters.
