Phillies Prospect Watch: Matt Ferrara Ends May Strong
Phillies affiliates went 2-2 on Sunday, May 31, with 2025 ninth round pick Matt Ferrara taking a step in the right direction to end the month. After slashing .174/.282/.337 on the month, the 2025 prep pick cleared the fences in a 6-1 win for Single-A Clearwater.
IronPigs’ outfielder Pedro León continued his rehab assignment with the Threshers with his second home run in as many days, while usual suspects Alirio Ferrebus and Juan Villavicencio added doubles and starter Brad Pacheco fanned six batters in four innings of one-run ball.
Triple-A Lehigh Valley won 8-5, a Liover Peguero grand slam putting them ahead for good in the seventh inning. Bryan De La Cruz doubled and accounted for three more RBI, while starting right-hander Alan Rangel got knocked around for five runs in 4.2 innings.
Double-A Reading saw two-double games from first baseman Austin Murr and left fielder Raylin Heredia, both of whom went 3-for-4. Right fielder Dylan Campbell (2-for-4 with a steal) hit a two-run homer in the eighth as the Fightin Phils tried to dig their way out of a four-run hole, but they couldn’t come away with a win after starter Kyle Brnovich got roughed up for six runs in 3.1 innings.
High-A Jersey Shore saw a momentum swing in the opposite direction, allowing three runs in the ninth on the way to a 4-3 loss. Penn alumnus Ryan Dromboski allowed one run and struck out four in three innings, making his second start of the week in an abbreviated outing.
Left fielder Joel Dragoo and third baseman Tyler Pettorini each went 2-for-4 with a double, leading the BlueClaws at the plate.
