Phillies Prospect Watch: 2025 Picks Wood, Phelps Power Threshers

Phillies affiliates went 4-0 on Saturday, May 2 with strong performances from 2025 draft picks like Gage Wood and Robert Phelps.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley managed nine runs on five hits, drawing eight free passes. Christian Cairo, who played both left field and shortstop, went 2-for-3 with two walks.

Starting pitcher Jean Cabrera endured another downswing in his first season of Triple-A ball, allowing four runs in three innings and striking out just one batter to his three walks issued. The IronPigs managed to win 9-6 nonetheless.

Double-A Reading won 5-3, Alex McFarlane securing the save with a one hit, one strikeout ninth inning. Aroon Escobar (3-for-5 with a double and two steals) and Bryan Rincon (2-for-4 with a homer, a walk and a steal) both reached base three times and flashed their skill on the base paths, while outfielder Dylan Campbell went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

High-A Jersey Shore won 5-4 in ten innings on a passed ball. Right fielder John Spikerman drew three walks and swiped three bases; Devin Saltiban went 2-for-5 with a double, added a steal of his own and was at the plate for the winning run.

Phillies right-hander and 2024 undrafted free agent Reese Dutton allowed three runs in six innings, while 2023 12th round pick Brandon Beckel kept the BlueClaws alive with three relief innings, going on to record the win.

Single-A Clearwater won 9-6 to complete the affiliates’ sweep. Shortstop and 2025 19th round pick Robert Phelps went 3-for-5 with a double and his first professional homer. Juan Villavicencio also cleared the fences; Wood fired four innings of one run ball, striking out six batters.
