Phillies’ Chan-Min Park Wise Beyond His Years
The Phillies spent most of their 2026 international bonus pool to bring in outfielder Francisco Renteria, but South Korean right-handed pitcher Chan-Min Park impressed the organization enough for them to swing a pair of trades, accumulating enough pool money to bring him into the fold.
Still just 17 years old, Park hasn’t yet appeared in a game for the organization; the Phillies’ assigned him to their Dominican Summer League team, likely giving him a chance to get his feet under him as he prepares for his professional debut. The younger a player is, the more you’ll hear about their projectable talent, but Park impresses with what he already brings to the table.
He manipulates his low-to-mid 90s fastball in order to attack hitters on both sides of the plate, behaving more like a sinker to get groundball outs against his fellow right-handers. The trickery doesn’t stop there. Beyond his slider/curveball combo, Park also mixes in a changeup and a splitter, generating outs in any way he can. While none of his individual offerings earn more than an average 50 grade from MLB Pipeline on the 20-80 prospect evaluation scale, Park has plenty of time to grow — in this case literally, as he might not top out at his current listed height of 6-foot-3.
Right now, Park’s ceiling looks like that of a crafty back-of-the-rotation innings eater. If this is the worst the 17 year old will ever look, however, solid command, a variety of offerings and the upside that comes with youth all bode well for Park’s professional career.
