Philadelphia Eagles Draft St. Joseph’s Prep Alumnus Kyle McCord

He represented Philadelphia for four years while attending St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, and now Kyle McCord will suit up as a professional for the City of Brotherly Love after going to the Eagles as a sixth round selection, 181st overall.
McCord, 22, led the Hawks to three straight PIAA state championships as the starting quarterback, finishing his high school career with 88 passing touchdowns and 6,887 passing yards, the latter a Philadelphia Catholic League record. A five-star recruit and the No. 32 overall player on ESPN’s Top 300 for the class of 2021, McCord committed to Ohio State, spending his first three collegiate seasons with the Buckeyes.
McCord, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 218 pounds, transferred to Syracuse for his senior season after breaking into the Buckeyes’ starting job as a junior, when he passed for 24 touchdowns to just eight interceptions. He led Syracuse to a 10-3 record in 2024, racking up 4,779 yards and 34 passing touchdowns.
A traditional pocket passer, McCord possesses a solid arm and enjoyed collegiate success. In the proper situation — a stable organization like the Eagles — he could find success as a backup, but McCord hasn’t displayed franchise quarterback potential to this point in his career.
McCord is the second Philadelphia area product to hear his name called in this year’s draft, as Philly native and La Salle College High School graduate Abdul Carter went third overall to the New York Giants after three seasons at Penn State. Carter, a 6-foot-3, 259 pound defensive end, won the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award in 2024 and a unanimous All-American selection after picking up 12 quarterback sacks.
Another NFL hopeful from the Philadelphia area is Villanova cornerback Isas Waxter II, expected to hear his name called toward the tail end of the draft.
