Report: WVU Football to Retain RB Coach Chad Scott

New WVU football coach Rich Rodriguez will retain running backs coach and Philadelphia area recruiting coordinator Chad Scott, according to a report by Mike Casazza of 247Sports on Tuesday.

Scott came to WVU in 2019 along with former head coach Neal Brown and has been a well-liked and effective running backs coach ever since. He has also served as co-offensive coordinator (2019-21), run game coordinator (2022-23) and offensive coordinator (2024). Scott was the team’s interim head coach for the Frisco Bowl last month.

A first round NFL draft pick in 1997 who enjoyed an 11 year professional careerr, Scott has done all of his work at WVU the old-school way, not making use of the transfer portal.

Since coming to WVU, Scott helped develop Philadelphia native and Neumann Goretti Catholic High School alumnus Leddie Brown into a back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher in 2020 and 2021. He also recruited Jahiem White of York, Pa., who flirted with 1,000 offensive yards in each of the past two seasons. As players begin to hit the portal en masse in the wake of Neal Brown’s firing, West Virginia’s retention of Scott would seemingly increase the likelihood White stays with the Mountaineers.

Other area recruits who Scott helped bring to the Mountaineers’ current roster include Cooper Young (Downingtown) and Brandon Rehmann (St. Joseph’s Prep).
