Enoch Boakye Fills Role With Villanova | Meet the Wildcats

This is one in a series of stories introducing the Villanova Wildcats’ 2024-25 roster.
A 6-foot-11, 255 pound behemoth in the low post, Enoch Boakye transferred to Villanova this offseason to use his fourth and final year of collegiate eligibility.
Boakye possesses a reported 7-foot-5 wingspan, per NBA Draft Room, breaking into the starting lineup during his junior season at Fresno State after two years off the bench with Arizona State. Appearing for an average of 22.7 minutes per game with the Bulldogs last season, Boakye put up 7.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, adding 1.2 blocks and sinking 61.6 percent of his shots, always lurking near the rim.
Through parts of four collegiate seasons, including to start the year with Villanova, the Brampton, Ontario native has never so much as attempted a shot from the 3-point line. 247Sports rated Boakye as a five-star recruit out of high school, listing him as the No. 29 recruit overall in the class of 2021 even after he reclassified in order to enter college a year early.
He chose Michigan State over an initial wave of offers from teams like Kentucky and Texas Tech, then decommitted in order to sign with Arizona State.
Methodical Climb
An obviously raw prospect in high school — and a controversial one as well, as he never so much as cracked the Top 100 for ESPN’s rankings — Enoch Boakye never managed to turn that potential into results during his time in Tempe. Durability often poses a problem for big men, and a leg injury hampered his start with the Sun Devils during his freshman year.
He made it on the court even less during his sophomore campaign, however, appearing in just 19 games (no starts) for an average of 3.3 minutes… and then it was time to hit the portal. Boakye managed to revitalize his career upon transferring to Fresno State, playing in 29 of 33 games and starting 26 of them, then decided to test the transfer waters again, heading to Villanova for his final season.
He’s started all 11 of the Wildcats’ nonconference games this season, playing for an average of 20.5 minutes per contest for Kyle Neptune’s small-ball focused squad. Thus primarily in the game during situations which suit his talents best, Boakye is averaging 5.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Wildcats, offering a steady defensive presence with the occasional offensive board turning into a thunderous dunk.
He may not embody the NBA Draft upside attached to his name out of high school, but Enoch Boakye fills an important role for Villanova, and provides a capable veteran presence in doing so.
