Villanova Women’s Basketball To Retain Star Freshman Henry?
Villanova Women’s Basketball appears set to retain one of their most important players, with rising sophomore Kennedy Henry seeming to indicate her commitment to the Wildcats in a Monday, March 30 Instagram post.
“Same time next year” the caption reads, the post containing six pictures of Henry with her Villanova teammates. An ESPN Top 100 recruit to begin her career, Henry wasted no time impacting the Wildcats on the court, starting all 31 games this season and averaging 9.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and a team-high 2.3 steals per game, setting a freshman program record in the final category.
That earned the six foot tall guard All-Big East Defensive and Freshman team honors. With the Wildcats attempting to build on a season that saw them end a two-year tournament drought and finish second in the Big East behind the juggernaut of No. 1 UConn, retaining Henry marks a major step for their future plans… especially because in the era of the transfer portal, keeping a roster from year to year is a significant hurdle.
Villanova’s athletes talked throughout the season about how close they are as a group, a testament to the culture head coach Denise Dillon is building on the Main Line. Star point guard and rising junior Jasmine Bascoe also appeared to affirm her commitment to the Wildcats during a media appearance before their Round of 64 loss to Texas Tech, so Villanova should have an excellent 1-2 punch next season at an absolute minimum.
