Villanova Reaction: Uninspiring Win at DePaul

The Villanova Wildcats shot themselves in the foot plenty but still managed to survive, snapping a three game losing streak when they took down the DePaul Blue Demons 59-49 in Chicago on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Facing a now 11-13 team missing three of its starters, the Wildcats looked far from inspiring, committing 15 turnovers and needing much of the first half before they established a solid lead. Although they’re now back in the win column, style points matter in the world of college basketball, where factors like margin of victory and even the eye test can end up making the difference between an NCAA Tournament bid and an early offseason.

Villanova managed to clean up their performance and settle in as the game went on, but it was hard to erase the bad taste left after they committed five turnovers in the first five minutes and let DePaul — a team they should’ve blown the doors off of in light of their injury news — maintain a lead for much of the first half.

Here’s what college basketball fans and media, whether associated with Villanova, the Big East or the sport in general had to say about the Wildcats’ performance: the good, the bad and the ugly.
