Villanova in the Pros: Eric Dixon’s Contract Situation
Villanova all-time scoring leader Eric Dixon didn’t hear his name called during either round of the NBA Draft, but reports circulated in the minutes after the draft’s conclusion that he’d signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Two-way contracts give franchises the ability to move a player between their NBA and G-League rosters, but the Lakers’ roster still doesn’t include Dixon’s name. Dan Woike of the Athletic reported that he hasn’t yet signed his contract as a result of the foot injury that kept him out of Los Angeles’ Summer League games.
The Lakers still have one of their three spots for two-way contracts open after waiving center Trey Jemison III, so there’s still a place for Dixon in their organization for the moment. Whether Dixon will need surgery for his foot injury — and how that might affect his contract situation — remains unclear. If no more updates come out in the meantime, the next major offseason benchmark for the Lakers will come when training camp begins in late September or early October.
Dixon’s participation (or lack thereof) in training camp would give a better idea of his status with Los Angeles.
