Villanova Forward Eric Dixon Earns Another All-American Nod

He led the nation in points per game this season, so it’s no surprise that the All-American nods continue to roll in for Villanova forward Eric Dixon.
The 6-foot-8, 265 pound wing received Third Team All-American honors from the Associated Press on Tuesday, March 18 and now the US Basketball Writers Association has thrown their hat into the ring. Once again, Dixon landed on the third team.
Dixon, 24, averaged 23.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists this season, breaking out with sudden success from three-point range — draining 42.2 percent of his shots on 223 attempts — despite spending his first four years playing for the Wildcats as a traditional power forward.
He now ranks No. 2 on the Wildcats’ all-time scoring leaderboard with 2,235 points, just behind Kerry Kittles (2,243) for the top spot in Villanova history. With at least one game left in his collegiate career as the Wildcats will face Colorado in the College Basketball Crown invitational on Tuesday, April 1, Dixon has an excellent chance to cement himself as the top scorer in Villanova history.
Eric Dixon, who earned First Team All-Big East honors at the conclusion of conference play, remains in the running for a bevy of national trophies including the Karl Malone Award, given annually to the top power forward in the nation and the Wooden, Naismith and Oscar Robertson awards, each presented on behalf of a different committee to the most outstanding player in the nation. Given that power forwards Johni Broome (Auburn) and JT Toppin (Texas Tech) surpassed Dixon on both the AP and the USBWA’s first and second teams, he’ll probably miss the cut for the various awards, but will finish his career as a Wildcats’ legend regardless.
