Villanova Film Review: Kwame Evans Jr. Does Everything Well

This is one in a series of stories reviewing film for each player on Villanova Men’s Basketball’s 2026-27 roster. 

Villanova transfer Kwame Evans Jr. began his career as a five-star recruit and spent three successful years with the Oregon Ducks before heading to the Main Line for his final season. A 6-foot-10, 220 pound forward, Evans is a well-rounded stretch four who can knock down shots and play capable defense all around the court.

Reviewing the film of Oregon’s losses to Illinois and Michigan last season — teams that made the Final Four and won the national championship, respectively — Evans’ versatility stands out immediately. He has solid handles for a player of his size and could back down oversized defenders like Michigan’s Aday Mara in order to create opportunities in the low post.

Defensively, he could use his lower center of gravity to pressure players like Mara; he was also capable of defending along the perimeter, and with a more experienced lineup this year, that sort of switching ability could prove beneficial for Villanova.

One offensive highlight that stood out showed Evans dribbling laterally through the paint, using his wingspan to hook around a defender before pulling up for a midrange jumper. He took 37.1 percent of his shots from three point range on the season and made 30.4 percent of them. That’s a solid but unspectacular conversion rate for his size and, perhaps even more important than the made shots themselves, his threat to catch-and-shoot from downtown will create space for the rest of Villanova’s offense.

All in all, Evans is an average to above-average player in almost every facet of the game. While he isn’t a five-star superstar, he’s a capable and versatile veteran who will give Villanova an upgrade down low.
