Phillies Prospect Watch: Mavis Graves On Fire to Start Double-A Career

Phillies affiliates went 1-2 on Wednesday, Sept. 2, with lefty Mavis Graves continuing his phenomenal start with Double-A Reading.

The Fightin Phils won 5-3. Righty Evan Gates served as opener and allowed one run in three innings; Graves earned the win with five strikeouts in two scoreless frames, landing 24 of 37 pitches for strikes as he cut his Fightin Phils ERA to 1.23. Wen-Hui Pan and Estibenzon Jimenez added one scoreless inning in relief apiece.

Outfielder Bryson Ware (2-for-3 with a homer and a walk) and third baseman Carson DeMartini (1-for-4 with a double) picked up extra base hits. Phillies 2024 first round pick Dante Nori drew a pair of walks, while Bryan Rincon managed three.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley picked up 11 hits but only managed two runs for their trouble. Left fielder Otto Kemp went 2-for-4 with a homer; first baseman Keaton Anthony (3-for-4 with a double), center fielder Kameron Misner (2-for-4), designated hitter Alex Binelas (2-for-4) and second baseman Christian Cairo (2-for-4) also made it on base more than once. 38-year-old IronPigs starter Casey Lawrence got shelled for seven runs in 4.1 innings, and Lehigh Valley lost 9-2.

High-A Jersey Shore lost 11-4, center fielder Nathan Humphreys (1-for-4 with a triple) notching the only extra base hit. Shortstop Robert Phelps (2-for-4), catcher/first baseman Kodey Shojinaga (two walks), second baseman Daunte Stuart (1-for-3 with a walk) and left fielder TJayy Walton (1-for-4 with a walk) all made it on base twice, but reliever Jake Eddington allowed seven runs across two outs recorded and the BlueClaws never recovered.

Single-A Clearwater, meanwhile, had their game postponed due to inclement weather.
