Phillies Prospect Watch: Career First for Tyler Spangler

Phillies affiliates went 3-2 on Tuesday, Sept. 1, with 2026 first round pick Tyler Spangler picking up his first extra base hit as a pro. Single-A Clearwater won 7-3. Second baseman Reece Moroney went 2-for-5 with a triple; Spangler doubled, as did center fielder Will Gasparino. 

Triple-A Lehigh Valley split their doubleheader, winning the first game — resumed from Aug. 16 — 4-2. Drake Fellows pitched six innings of two-run ball on an economical 71 pitches, second baseman Robert Moore doubled and left fielder Steward Berroa walked and singled. The nightcap didn’t go the IronPigs’ way, as they managed just one hit in a 16-0 loss.

Double-A Reading lost 5-3. Center fielder Dante Nori singled twice and stole two bases, third baseman Carson DeMartini drew a pair of walks, and first baseman Raider Tello walked and singled. Phillies 2025 third round pick Cody Bowker got the start and continued his strong introduction with the Fightin Phils, striking out five batters and allowing two earned runs in five innings pitched. 

High-A Jersey Shore won 6-4 in ten innings. Shortstop Juan Villavicencio (4-for-4 with a walk) singled home the winning run and stole a base; right fielder Devin Saltiban (1-for-5 with a homer) grounded into a double play that scratched across an insurance run. Right-hander Titan Kennedy-Hayes struck out two batters on 14 pitches to secure the save, while third baseman Brady Day (2-for-5 with a double) is now slashing .315/.415/.505 across 28 games in his first taste of action with the BlueClaws.
