Phillies Prospect Watch: Francisco Renteria Leads the Dominican Summer League

Phillies international free agent signee Francisco Renteria earned Dominican Summer League MVP honors for his performance this season, a year in which he slashed .379/.470/.682 with nine doubles, nine triples and 11 homers across 53 games played. The headliner of Philadelphia’s 2026 signing class, Renteria also earned DSL All-Star and Top MLB Prospect recognition for his performance this season. Still just 17 years old, the 6-foot-3, 216 pound outfielder ranks toward the top of the Phillies’ farm system.

Elsewhere in the organization, Phillies’ affiliates went 2-3 on Friday, Aug. 28.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley won 6-4 behind two homers and a double from second baseman Robert Moore. Double-A Reading lost 5-1 as 2025 first round pick Gage Wood got knocked around for five runs in five innings. Wood struck out seven batters to just one walk issued, but a three-run homer in the first put the Fightin Phils on the back foot. Carson DeMartini (1-for-3 with a double and a walk) and shortstop Bryan Rincon (1-for-3 with a walk) reached base twice; center fielder Pedro León drew two walks.

High-A Jersey Shore dropped both legs of their doubleheader in lopsided fashion. Lefty Cade Obermueller got knocked around for seven runs (six earned) in three innings, landing just 40 of 80 pitches for strikes. Obermueller struck out seven batters across nine outs reorded, but five free passes came back to haunt him. He also balked twice. 

Single-A Clearwater won 8-6. Jonathan Hogart and undrafted free agent Cade Climie (3-for-4 with six RBI) each cleared the fences, and 2026 catcher pick Macon Winslow (3-for-4 with a walk) added two doubles. Sean Youngerman allowed one run in five innings, striking out four batters across 74 pitches.
