This is the twenty-sixth in a series of stories breaking down the Philadelphia Phillies’ Top 30 prospects heading into 2026.

The Phillies landed one of the biggest fish of the 2026 international signing class when they agreed to terms with 17-year-old Venezuelan outfielder Francisco Renteria on a $4 million bonus. Renteria already possesses the frame of a much older prospect, standing 6-foot-3 and 216 pounds. At age 15, he went toe to toe with Venezuela’s best in the South American nation’s equivalent of the major leagues, going 8-for-28 with three doubles in limited action.

Renteria’s speed and arm strength make him a natural for center field and, perhaps most enticing, he still has room to grow. Ranked as the No. 3 prospect in this year’s signing class, the Phillies swung for the fences with Renteria. He might not appear in a game at Citizens Bank Park for half a decade, but his performance in the Dominican Summer League this season will give a good idea of how polished he is now.

It also helps that Renteria trained under former pro César Suárez — owner of close to 3,000 plate appearances in the minor leagues — back in Venezuela. While Suárez never made it to the show, that’s a level of training that most international prospects won’t have access to… and utility players tend to make better managers than superstars do once their playing careers come to an end.

Even though he’s only had a slight taste of professional baseball, the hype train is already leaving the station for Renteria. His summer league performance could turn that buzz into a hurricane.
