PHILADELPHIA— Drexel Men’s Basketball made their last seven shots on Thursday, Feb. 26, eking out a 65-60 home win over Campbell behind clutch shooting and a timely steal from sophomore guard Josh Reed.

The Dragons (16-14, 10-7 CAA) gave up a game-tying triple to Fighting Camels’ guard D.J. Smith with 1:08 to play; Shane Blakeney (22 points) put Drexel back in front 59-57, setting up Reed’s steal to cancel out an offensive rebound. Drexel went a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the final 20 seconds, maintaining their clutch shooting through the finish.

Campbell made just two of their first 13 shots out of the break, helping Drexel break a 27-27 halftime deadlock with an 11-4 run. The Camels then found their footing, scoring seven points in 66 seconds; another Smith triple served as the tying shot. In all, the game saw 11 ties and 10 lead changes.

Philadelphia native and Archbishop Wood graduate Muneer Newton threw down a thunderous dunk off a dish from Smith, then Smith put Campbell ahead 11-10 with a layup, but Drexel ripped off a 10-0 run that lasted more than four minutes.

Reed got whistled for a foul on a three-point shot, which was enough to break the Camels out of their rut. Jeremiah Johnson made all three of his free throws, and Campbell was back within a possession in a blink. Each time the Camels pulled in front, Drexel responded with a bucket on the following possession, including a Victor Panov (13 points) three that made it 47-46 with 5:31 to play. Blakeney scored ten points of his team’s 18 points in the final five minutes, carrying the Dragons to the finish line.

Drexel will conclude their regular season on the road against Hofstra at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3.
