Villanova WBB Follows Jasmine Bascoe in Comeback Win
On a night when just six of 11 Villanova Women’s Basketball players managed a basket, Wildcats’ point guard Jasmine Bascoe managed to carry the slack, dropping 27 points in a 67-57 road win over Butler on Wednesday, Feb. 4. A 6-0 run from the Bulldogs in the final 80 seconds made the score look more respectable, but the Wildcats (18-5, 11-3 Big East) pushed their lead as high as 16 points despite having to claw their way out of a second half deficit.
Villanova trailed 33-26 after a McKenna Johnson three 47 seconds into the second half, then allowed just one basket over the next four minutes, taking control with a 13-2 run. Jasmine Bascoe starred once again, putting up 27 points, and the Wildcats dominated the turnover margin in their usual fashion, scoring 22 points off Butler’s 16 mistakes.
While Villanova’s offense struggled, making just nine of 35 shots in the first half, they managed to play clean basketball, committing six turnovers that the Bulldogs managed just two points off of. The Wildcats’ offense hit its lowest ebb in the second quarter, when they made just three baskets in all.
Kennedy Henry and Brynn McCurry provided the main supplemental scoring, adding 12 points apiece. Henry sank a layup at the end of the third quarter, sparking a 9-0 run that lasted into the final frame and pushed the Wildcats’ lead to 55-41.
Villanova Women’s Basketball will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, when they host Georgetown at the Finneran Pavilion.
