Villanova Men’s Basketball picked up a Quadrant 2 home win on Wednesday, Feb. 4, taking down the Seton Hall Pirates 72-60, but beating the No. 4 team in the Big East in a down year for the conference did little to boost the Wildcats’ metrics. Villanova (17-5, 8-3 Big East) climbed one spot in the NET rankings, up to No. 32, and remained firm at No. 28 in the KenPom ratings.

They need some help from a conference foe, the Creighton Blue Jays, who earned an upset win at the Finneran Pavilion back in January. With Creighton amidst a 1-4 skid, that loss has since dropped into Quadrant 3, a major dent in Villanova’s overall résumé… but that matters more for seeding than making the Big Dance itself, as teamrankings.com currently gives the Wildcats a 99.5 percent chance of making it back to the tournament for the first time since 2022.

Their next four games will come against teams with a .500 or worse record in conference play, giving Villanova a chance to stack wins but doing little else to prove their pedigree. Their only remaining chances at a signature win before the Big East Tournament will come against UConn (Feb. 22 at XFinity Mobile Arena) and St. John’s (Feb. 28 at Madison Square Garden).

Currently projecting as a No. 8 seed, the Wildcats’ tournament path could end up running through an opening weekend buzzsaw.
