Villanova Roundup: AP Votes, Bascoe Earns Award
Villanova Men’s Basketball landed as the first team out of the Associated Press Top 25 poll last week, but a home loss to Creighton and a last-minute road win at Marquette dropped them to No. 30 overall in the poll published on Monday, Jan. 12.
The Wildcats (13-3, 4-1 Big East) picked up 40 points from voters, behind mid-major programs like Saint Louis (92 points) and Miami (Ohio), who picked up 49 points. They also finished behind Seton Hall, who landed at No. 25 with 136 points… and who the Wildcats beat in Newark to kick off Big East play.
UConn (No. 3) and St. John’s (one point) were the other two Big East programs to appear on a ballot. For comparison, Villanova currently ranks No. 29 according to the NET and No. 25 per KenPom. After placing at No. 24 in last week’s coaches poll, the Wildcats fell to No. 28 in terms of votes amassed.
Villanova Women’s Basketball, meanwhile, still has yet to receive a single vote this season despite racing out to a 14-3 record. Despite that lack of recognition, sophomore guard Jasmine Bascoe landed on the Big East honor roll for the fifth time this season after averaging 17 points and seven assists on the week.
