Villanova Women’s Basketball dominated the Providence Friars on Sunday, Jan. 11, winning 85-55 on the road behind a 20 point effort from junior forward Brynn McCurry. McCurry made 9 of 11 shots, her only two misses coming from three, and added six rebounds and four assists.

Jasmine Bascoe added 19 points and seven assists, while senior Danae Carter put up six points, eight rebounds and seven dishes.

True freshman Kennedy Henry missed the game with no reason listed on the injury report; Dani Ceseretti started in her place.

The Wildcats (14-3, 7-1 Big East) kept up their prolific passing habit, amassing 25 assists on 33 shots made. They also cut off passing lanes for the Friars, forcing 23 turnovers that generated 24 points. Villanova held Providence to just 40 points throughout the first 32 minutes and 50 seconds of play: from there, the Friars finished on a 5-of-10 clip that gave their 36 percent shooting a boost.

McCurry scored the Wildcats’ first four points, sparking a 9-0 statement run to open the game. Bascoe sank two threes in the opening quarter, while McCurry and Kelsey Joens (11 points) each added their own triples as Villanova raced out to a 24-14 lead.

The Wildcats pushed their lead to 20 points at halftime, allowing head coach Denise Dillon to give her bench 82 minutes. They still managed to maintain pressure throughout, making 56.4 percent of shots from two as a team.

Up next, Villanova will travel to face No. 1 UConn (16-0, 7-0 Big East) in a clash of the conference’s top two teams. That matchup will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15.
