Villanova Bracketology: No Change Despite Winning Streaks
Villanova Men’s and Women’s Basketball maintained the status quo in the latest bracketology update, checking in as No. 8 and No. 10 seeds, respectively, on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 10.
The men’s team won their last three games and is amidst the easiest stretch they’ll face for the rest of the season, two of their next three games coming against teams with a conference record below .500. That weak schedule could damage their résumé, as their only Quadrant 1 opportunities remaining will come against ranked teams like UConn and St. John’s. Those games provide their best chance to improve upon their current seed, even if they win out otherwise.
As of right now, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi sees the Wildcats as facing off in the Greenville, S.C. portion of the East Regional, where they’d take on No. 9 seed Indiana… and run into a No. 1 seed like Duke if they advanced to the second round.
Villanova Women’s Basketball has won their last four games, and women’s bracketologist Charlie Creme predicts that they’ll face No. 7 Minnesota in the regional that Louisville, a No. 2 seed, hosts. They’ve spent much of the past two months as a No. 10 seed and have struggled to boost their national perception, even with a signature road win over West Virginia, currently the No. 19 team in the country.
The Wildcats chased the Mountaineers off their home court in December amidst a ten game winning streak, but analysts remain unimpressed… setting the table for a potential dark horse run in March.
