Phillies Prospect Watch: Felix Reyes Aiming for Another Shot

Phillies affiliates went 0-3 on Thursday, May 21, unable to come up with the tying run in a pair of razor-thin decisions.

Felix Reyes continued his hot streak in an 8-7 loss for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, homering for the third time in the past three games. The 25-year-old plays both outfield and first base and has an OPS north of 1.050 with the IronPigs this season. However, he struggled upon making his big league debut with the Phillies after hitting a home run in his first MLB at-bat; the organization optioned him back to Lehigh Valley on May 18.

Double-A Reading managed just seven baserunners in a 1-0 loss; Aroon Escobar (2-for-4) and Austin Murr (2-for-3 with a walk) accounted for the majority of those opportunities, but no extra base hits gave the Fightin Phils limited opportunities to scratch a tying run across. Luke Russo pitched five innings of one-run ball, striking out eight batters, while Alex McFarlane fanned two more across 1.1 relief innings.

High-A Jersey Shore had their planned doubleheader wiped out due to rain, one game cancelled outright and the other pushed back to a Friday doubleheader. Single-A Clearwater rounded out a down night for the organization with an 11-2 loss. Nathan Humphreys (1-for-3 with a walk) homered, Alirio Ferrebus and Matt Ferrara doubled, while Griffin Burkholder notched a pair of singles and swiped a base. The Threshers’ pitching got knocked around from start to finish, however, without any bright spots on the mound.
