Phillies Prospect Watch: Gage Wood Makes Double-A Debut
Phillies affiliates went 2-3 on Friday, May 22, with 2025 first round pick Gage Wood making his Double-A debut; Wood struck out six batters and allowing a solo home run across three innings (56 pitches). The Fightin Phils managed seven hits but struggled to string them together in a 2-1 loss. Infielder Bryson Ware hit a pinch-hit triple and Dante Nori doubled, the lone offensive highlights.
Triple-A Lehigh Valley walked it off 6-5 in ten innings, an infield single from Christian Cairo (1-for-3 with a walk) ending the game. Felix Reyes went 2-for-5 and former big leaguer Bryan De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a homer and a walk.
High-A Jersey Shore split their doubleheader. Left-handed starter Mavis Graves allowed two runs in four innings on a humid day with spotty command; first baseman Raider Tello went 2-for-3 with a walk, then added two more hits in the nightcap, a 1-0 loss.
Left fielder Joel Dragoo (2-for-3) and third baseman Erick Brito (1-for-2 with two walks) both made it on base multiple times. Brito, who began the season on the injured list for Lehigh Valley, also stole two bases and got thrown out trying to swipe another.
Manolfi Jimenez homered for Single-A Clearwater. Third baseman Juan Villavicencio went 2-for-3 with a triple and first baseman Nolan Beltran notched a double and a walk. 2025 third round pick Cody Bowker got the start, allowing three runs (two earned) in three innings, and Gabe Craig posted a scoreless inning in relief as the Threshers lost 5-4.
