Eric Dixon Named Big East Player of the Week

Villanova forward Eric Dixon picked up Big East Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, averaging 32 points per game for the week of Feb. 24.
Dixon also won the award back in January. The 6-foot-8 forward, who leads the nation in scoring with an average of 23.6 points per game, helped the Wildcats pick up a pair of crucial wins over Seton Hall and Butler, keeping Villanova’s (18-12, 11-8 Big East) dreams of securing an at-large bid alive.
Dixon outscored the Pirates single handedly during the second half of Villanova’s Feb. 26 win, notching 25 of his 32 points after the break while working to erase a 16 point second half deficit. He scored 12 points in a row as part of a 17-0 run to bring the Wildcats back into the game, putting his team ahead for good with a three-pointer and adding ten rebounds.
Playing in the final home game of his six year Villanova career on March 1, Eric Dixon dropped 34 points against Butler, moving into third place on Villanova’s all time leaderboard with 2,184. With at least two guaranteed games remaining in the season, he now sits just 59 points away from the program’s all time scoring record, set in 1996 by Kerry Kittles, and remains in the mix for national player of the year trophies like the Wooden, Naismith and Oscar Robertson Awards.
