Phillies Prospect Watch: First Rounder Tyler Spangler Hits First Career Homer

Phillies affiliates went 1-3 on Friday, Sept. 4, with 2026 first round pick Tyler Spangler hitting his first professional homer as part of a furious comeback.

Single-A Clearwater scored nine runs across the seventh and eighth innings, winning 13-9 in comeback fashion. Catcher Macon Winslow, the Phillies’ sixth round pick, first baseman Will Vierling (4-for-5 with two homers) and Spangler (1-for-4 with a walk) all cleared the fences. Nolan Beltran hit three doubles, while Matt Ferrara (2-for-3 with two walks) stole one base but got thrown out twice. 

Triple-A Lehigh Valley lost 9-2. Shortstop Christian Cairo (2-for-2 with two walks) and first baseman Keaton Anthony slugged first inning home runs, but the IronPigs’ offense petered out after that.

Double-A Reading fell 4-3 via walkoff. Shortstop Bryan Rincon (1-for-2 with two walks) and catcher Caleb Ricketts homered; Ricketts tied the game with a pinch-hit blast in the ninth. Bryson Ware (1-for-4) tripled, while top second base prospect Aroon Escobar singled twice and stole a base. Fightin Phils starter Luke Russo allowed three runs in six innings on the way to a quality start, and Wen-Hui Pan put up a scoreless inning in relief.

High-A Jersey Shore endured a 10-3 loss. Lefty starter Cade Obermueller allowed four runs and five walks in 1.2 innings, leaving the game with 55 pitches thrown. Third baseman Brady Day (2-for-4) and center fielder Nathan Humphreys (1-for-4) both homered, but the BlueClaws couldn’t cut into the early deficit.
