Phillies Prospect Watch: Gage Wood Building Endurance

Phillies affiliates went 3-1 on Saturday, July 25, with top pitching prospect Gage Wood recording the second-longest start of his professional career as Double-A Reading won 6-5, surviving a ninth-inning rally. Wood pitched into the fifth inning for just the second time this season, allowing four runs (three earned) and striking out six batters across 4.2 frames (73 pitches).

Wen-Hui Pan pitched a clean inning in relief, and closer Christian McGowan notched the save after flirting with disaster. Shortstop Bryan Rincon hit two homers and accounted for four RBI; catcher Caleb Ricketts also cleared the fences.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley amassed seven walks but just two hits in a 9-0 loss, a double from catcher Paul McIntosh one of the only highlights. Starter Alan Rangel, recently sent down from the Phillies, allowed seven earned runs in one of his worst starts of the season.

High-A Jersey Shore won 7-3, benefitting from three hits, a homer and a walk from 25-year-old leadoff man Daunte Stuart, who scored three runs. Starter Tanner Gresham got back on track with five innings pitched and three runs allowed, fanning six batters. Outfield prospect Devin Saltiban walked, singled and stole a base.

Single-A Clearwater eked out an 8-7 win: Jonathan Hogart (3-for-3 with a walk) hit two doubles and Juan Villavicencio homered. The win marked two in a row for the Threshers, who allowed just one hit in six innings the previous day. 2025 second round pick Cade Obermueller got Clearwater started with four strong innings in that 11-0 win, allowing just two walks while fanning five batters.

With 11 runs allowed in 35.2 innings this season, Obermueller could get the call to High-A soon.
