Phillies Prospect Watch: Alex McFarlane Makes Big League Debut

Phillies affiliates went 2-2 on Thursday, July 23 with another walkoff win for the Jersey Shore BlueClaws; flamethrowing reliever Alex McFarlane made his big league debut the day prior, pitching a scoreless ninth against the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers.

High-A Jersey Shore won 6-5 in 12 innings, Trent Farquhar providing the walkoff single. Farquhar was one of four BlueClaws to draw a pair of walks, joining outfield prospect Devin Saltiban. Lefty starter Mavis Graves allowed one run in four innings, fanning five batters on 55 pitches.

28-year-old right-hander Chuck King pitched eight innings of one-run ball for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, striking out five batters on 83 pitches as the IronPigs won 3-1. Catcher Paul McIntosh, shortstop Christian Cairo and first baseman Keaton Anthony all doubled, leading the way for the IronPigs’ offense.

Double-A Reading melted down in the second inning, allowing seven unearned runs in a 10-0 loss. First baseman Alex Binelas provided the lone jolt at the plate for the Fightin Phils, doubling and walking.

Single-A Clearwater lost 5-2 as Phillies 2025 12th round pick Tyler Bowen got lit up for three runs in his lone inning of work. Starter Brad Pacheco allowed two runs in five innings, fanning four batters on 66 pitches; second baseman Robert Phelps hit a pair of doubles.
