Phillies Prospect Watch: Gage Wood Gears Up for Futures Game
Phillies 2025 first round pick Gage Wood began his preparation for the All-Star Futures Game on Tuesday, July 7, pitching just three innings in Double-A Reading’s 2-1 win.
Wood, who needed just 38 pitches to strike out four batters across three scoreless innings, was one of two Phillies’ prospects selected to the exhibition, which will take place at Citizens Bank Park on July 12; the other is Fightin Phils’ reliever Wen-Hui Pan. Raylin Heredia provided all the offense for Reading, hitting a two-run home run; closer Alex McFarlane fanned two batters on his way to the save.
Triple-A Lehigh Valley won 3-2 with a tenth inning walk-off, Otto Kemp logging the winning single. First baseman Keaton Anthony (2-for-4) added an RBI double, and reliever Michael Mercado recorded the win with two clean innings in relief.
High-A Jersey Shore, on the other hand, ended up on the wrong side of an extra innings decision, falling 8-7 in the 11th. 27-year-old first baseman Brandon Lewis, recently signed from an independent league, hit two home runs; Tyler Miller and Carter Mathison also cleared the fences, and Devin Saltiban added three singles. Fundamentals evaded the BlueClaws in the ninth, two errors contributing to a game-tying four-run rally that went on to cost them the game.
Single-A Clearwater took a 7-0 drubbing, their only hit coming on a Nolan Beltran single. Lefty Cade Obermueller allowed four runs across 3.2 innings, fanning seven batters but allowing two home runs.
