Phillies Prospect Watch: Andrew Painter Mows Through Six Innings

Phillies’ affiliates went 2-1 on Saturday, July 4, with 2021 first round pick Andrew Painter continuing to get back on track. The lanky right-hander fired six innings of one-run ball for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, striking out six batters without issuing any walks. Painter was the picture of efficiency, needing just 69 pitches (48 strikes) to complete his outing. The IronPigs lost 2-1 via walkoff, however, six singles not enough to generate any offense.

Double-A Reading won 5-3, center fielder Pedro León clearing the fences for the second game in a row. The 28-year-old had three homers in his last four games and began the season with Lehigh Valley before an injury wiped out close to two months.

Shortstop Bryan Rincon went 2-for-3 with a walk, Raylin Heredia doubled, and starter Adam Seminaris allowed two runs in five innings of work. Closer Alex McFarlane struck out three batters over two innings to secure the save, struggling with accuracy — he walked two batters and landed just 20 of 38 pitches for strikes — but kept his opponents off the board.

High-A Jersey Shore didn’t play because of a persistent power outage; Single-A Clearwater won 7-3. Alirio Ferrebus homered, Griffin Burkholder (1-for-2 with three walks) and Matt Ferrara (1-for-3) both doubled. Starting pitcher Sean Youngerman, the Phillies’ 2025 fourth round pick, continued to struggle, allowing three earned runs in five innings.
