Villanova Men’s Basketball picked up their second commitment of the day during the evening of Thursday, May 1, with Grand Canyon sophomore guard Malcolm Flaggs choosing the Wildcats out of the transfer portal. Flaggs, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 200 pounds, announced his decision via Instagram.

Although he’s only a redshirt sophomore, the upcoming college basketball season will be his fourth in the NCAA. He took a redshirt year to begin his collegiate career, then appeared in 11 games during the 2023-24 campaign, putting up an average of 0.8 points in 2.5 minutes per game. Flaggs didn’t set foot on the court last season, taking a medical redshirt, so he retains three seasons of eligibility.

He already possesses some familiarity with the Villanova roster, growing up alongside fellow Grand Canyon transfer Duke Brennan. The duo spent their first collegiate season together at Arizona State, then spent the last two seasons with the Lopes, describing their bond as like brothers during a 2023 interview. Now, they’ll suit up in blue and white.

Flaggs’ commitment leaves Villanova with three spots to fill on their roster ahead of next season. Unranked as a prospect out of high school, he’ll provide the Wildcats with depth at wing.
