Villanova Men’s Basketball missed out on a pair of recent transfer targets, with Nate Calmese and Jlynn Counter choosing Wake Forest and the College of Charleston, respectively.

Calmese, a rising senior with one season of eligibility remaining, averaged 15.2 points and 4.4 assists per game last season for Washington State.

Counter, another rising senior, put up 10.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last season, his first with Middle Tennessee after two years in the Horizon League.

Villanova still needs to fill at least five spots on their roster ahead of the 2025-26 season, and with less than a week to go in the initial transfer period, they could still see more shakeup on their roster. Players can still commit to new schools following that April 25 deadline, but they can’t enter the portal once it closes in most cases.

As of right now, the Wildcats will retain just two players who entered at least one game during the 2024-25 campaign, assuming former walk-on Collin O’Toole still has a year of eligibility remaining.

Other Villanova transfer targets still on the table include Maryland’s Rodney Rice and Tafara Gapare.
