Villanova rising sophomore Chris Jeffrey entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, April 15, per a report from Sam Kayser of League Ready. His departure leaves the Wildcats with at least nine spots to fill on their roster ahead of next season; rising junior Malachi Palmer is the only player from last season’s roster who hasn’t announced his intentions one way or another.

A four star recruit who initially committed to Maryland and followed head coach Kevin Willard to the Main Line, Jeffrey stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 200 pounds. He appeared in 22 games as a true freshman despite undergoing knee surgery in late December and averaged 8.2 minutes per night, putting up an average of three points, one assist and one rebound while providing a valuable defensive presence.

Willard and former Villanova teammate Acaden Lewis both raved about Jeffrey’s dedication and work ethic, but the Wildcats’ wing-heavy roster construction would’ve cut into his prospective playing time next season, so his transferring probably makes sense for both sides.
