Villanova Forward Eric Dixon Nets 2,000th Career Point

Villanova graduate small forward Eric Dixon notched a major milestone in front of the home crowd at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, Feb. 1 vs Creighton, clearing the 2,000 point barrier with a three-pointer with 4:38 to go in the first half. Dixon is the ninth active player to reach the mark, and one of five to do so with the same team.
Amidst his sixth and final season with the Wildcats — Dixon took a redshirt year during the 2019-2020 campaign and received an extra year of eligibility as did every other player active during that COVID-19 pandemic shortened campaign — has emerged as one of the best scoring threats in all of Division 1, entering play on Saturday with an average of 24.6 points per game.
He first broke out during the 2021-22 season, starting all 38 games as the Wildcats made a run to the Final Four during head coach Jay Wright’s last season. He averaged more than 15 points per game during each of the past two seasons since then before becoming one of the best three-point shooters in the country this year, a unique skillset for a 6-foot-8 wing.
Dixon’s performance has him in the running for the Wooden Award, the most prestigious honor awarded to college basketball players, and he’s also in the mix for June’s NBA Draft, currently projected as a late second round pick. The heart and soul of the Wildcats this season, Dixon almost didn’t come back to Villanova, declaring for the draft last year before electing to withdraw his name and exhaust his final year of eligibility.
