Villanova Forward Duke Brennan Heads to the SEC
Villanova Men’s Basketball forward Duke Brennan transferred to Oklahoma on Wednesday, Aug. 19, per an announcement from his agency. Brennan earned an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA’s five-in-five rule change this offseason, giving players five seasons to complete their college careers.
Brennan began his college journey with Arizona State during the 2022-23 school year, spending a pair of seasons with Grand Canyon before transferring to Villanova. While he never redshirted, Brennan entered the transfer portal when it opened this offseason in anticipation of the NCAA’s ruling. It didn’t originally apply to his graduating class, but they sued the league in order to be included along with their younger peers, and players who hit the portal early like Brennan have had an easier time with the NCAA.
Brennan averaged a double-double during his lone season with the Wildcats, but the addition of center Luigi Suigo and forwards Devin Royal and Kwame Evans Jr. would’ve relegated him to a backup role. As a fringe NBA prospect who earned a Summer League invite, playing at Oklahoma will give Brennan another season to hone his talent ahead of a professional career, whether in the G-League or overseas.
